Why Should You Drink Water Daily?

The most common reason why we should drink water daily is that our body is made up with around 60% water and therefore it is important that we replace any loss of water we have.

Reason 1: Hydration levels strongly affect brain functions

Poor hydration levels within the body can impair how your brain functions. For example a study was conducted on young men and researchers found that with a fluid loss of 1.6%, they started to have symptoms of memory loss, anxiety and even lack of energy cause by increased fatigue.

Furthermore a similar study was conducted but this time on young women and the researchers found that with a fluid loss of 1.4% the young women had symptoms of impair concentration and an increased frequency of headaches.

Therefore it is important to prevent your body from having sort of dehydration and making sure you replace the fluid you lose whether through exercise or anything else you do. Which is why it is recommended you drink up to 2 litres of water daily.

Reason 2: Drinking water can help with weight loss

You have likely heard plenty of times that drinking water is top things you should do when trying to lose weight but have you ever thought why?

Well one of benefits of drinking water is that it increases satiety and boosts your metabolic rate which is why it is one of the first things recommended when doing trying to lose weight.

Also a 12 week study was conducted on dieters and the researchers found that dieters who drank 0.5 litres of water before all their meals lost 44% more weight than dieters who did not drink water before more meals.

What is Electrolyte Water?

Electrolytes are minerals that conduct electricity when dissolved in water and you likely know about common ones such as sodium, magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

Electrolytes are important for body because they help control your fluid balance, regulate your blood pressure, help with muscle contract as well as maintain the correct acidity of your blood.

Why Should You Drink Electrolyte Water?

The most common reason why you should drink water that contains these minerals is that electrolytes can help maintain optimal body functions.

Reason 1: Electrolyte water helps maintain optimal performance during physical activities

Electrolyte water is commonly known for being in sport drinks because the benefits consist of replenish loss of fluid, electrolytes, and energy from doing some form of physical activity.

Also in a study they found that electrolyte water is more effective over regular water when you are doing physical exercise that last longer than hour or you are exercising in a hot environment.

Furthermore it is important to know that sweat contains electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium and it has been found by researchers that you lose on average 1 gram of sodium for every litre of sweat.

Therefore adding further support to why you should drink electrolyte water, especially if you are doing any form of physical activity at a high level.

Reason 2: Electrolyte water can help keep you hydrated through illness

Symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea can cause your body to dehydrate at a rapid pace if you do not replace the fluids and electrolytes lost.

Therefore if you have such symptoms it is recommended to drink electrolyte regulars to help prevent dehydrations.

But it is important to know that if you have vomiting or diarrhoea symptoms that last more than 24 hours or you are unable to replenish enough fluid to seek medical advice immediately.

In summary, the benefits of drinking  regular water and electrolyte water are very positive on the mind and body and can really help if consumed on a daily basis.
