What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a type of massage therapy which involves manipulation of soft tissue and is geared toward people involved in physical and sports activities or physically demanding jobs to help prevent or treat injuries, relieve tension and restore range of movement. It can also be highly effective in terms of balancing muscles and improving posture. Postural stress can indeed produce similar characteristics than sports injuries, making sports massage an ideal treatment type.
The idea of sports massage is to apply different massage techniques to achieve a specific goal when treating a client/athlete. Each treatment case is designed according to the specific needs of each individual with varying depths and strengths. Sports massage tends to be more intense than for example Swedish massage, even though it incorporates many similar elements.
