Common Questions about CBD blog banner

What is CBD?

One of the most common CBD questions  people ask is,   what is CBD?

Cannabidiol commonly known as CBD is a natural compound found in the resinous flower known as cannabis. CBD is related to THC also known as Tetrahydrocannabinol which is the compound found in cannabis that cause us to experience the “high” effect.

Furthermore there are three types of CBD and it is important to know the difference, the first type is Full-spectrum CBD which is the most potent and is the only type of CBD to contain THC even if it is less than 0.2%. The second type is Broad-spectrum CBD which contains all the components of a cannabis plant except THC. The third type is CBD isolate and this is the purest type of CBD because it contains no other compound except CBD from the cannabis plant.

Another common question that is asked and makes people hesitate to buy CBD is, does CBD make you high? which will be answered in the next section.

Does CBD Make You High?

The short answer is no CBD does not make you high.

The long answer is that CBD and THC are similar in the way that both have therapeutic attributes. However the key difference between the two compounds is that CBD does not have the psychological attributes that makes a person feel “high” or intoxicated when taken unlike THC.

The reason why is both CBD and THC have different effects on the cannabinoid type 1 known as CB1 receptors in our brains. For example when THC is taken it will activate these CB1 receptors and this is what causes us to experience the “high” feeling. On the other hand CBD is sort of like a CB1 antagonist because when taken it will have the opposite effect and block any intoxicating effect caused by the CB1 receptors and therefore stopping us from experiencing the “high” feeling

Is CBD Legal?

Yes CBD is legal as long as the product meets the following criteria’s:

  • It must not contain no more than 0.2% of THC because this compound is a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
  • It must be derived from an industrial hemp strain which is approved in the UK
