Martina Cowen – CNHC Registered Nutritional Therapist

Who am I?Martina Cowen nutritional therapy

I am a fully insured member of British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT) and Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I studied at the prestigious College of Naturopathic Medicine, where I subsequently qualified as Nutritional Therapist.

Why did I choose Nutritional Therapies?

Growing up on a small holding meant that most of my spare time was spent tending to the vegetable patch or the animals. Through this, I learned first-hand not only that it’s demanding work, but also that the benefits greatly outweigh the work. Daily meals were prepared using vegetables grown in the garden; where we also grew vegetables and grains used to feed the animals. Cooking with my mother and father were favourite past times (especially around Christmas time). It was these special moments that prompted me to study cookery in Melbourne, Australia, where I gained a qualification in Cookery. After moving to Brighton, I gained a further qualification, B.Sc. (Hons) Psychology.

My background

My personal view is that a person’s food choices are influenced by number of factors – from availability of various foods, knowledge of not only the effects but also how to get the best out of individual ingredients, to the emotional influences surrounding these choices. It is with this in mind that I see nutritional sessions as a three-pronged approach – the food, the cookery and the emotion.

I am a passionate believer in the healing power of food and in the amazing changes that good nutrition and change in lifestyle can bring to people’s lives. With an ever-increasing prevalence of convenience foods around us, along with busy lifestyles, it is no surprise that there is an increase in health complaints by many people.

I studied naturopathic nutrition to learn how I can assess individual people’s dietary needs and requirements and tailor their specific protocol to gain the best results. It is my aim to combine my knowledge of cookery, psychology and nutrition to help clients achieve not just great health results but do so with tasty and nutritious meals that will help them to keep motivated.
